The infectious diseases department of children of the Tartu University Hospital, completed in 1982, is part of the Maarjamõisa Medical Campus. The complex was designed by Harri Kingo at the same time as the district hospital in Võru. The 120-bed infectious diseases department has a simple and rationalistic architectural style. It consists of three parts – between two rigid rectangular ward blocks shifted against each other, there is a lower and less articulated reception-diagnostic block. The spatial layout is determined by the functional characteristics of the hospital and consists of full and half-boxes grouped into sections. To prevent the spread of infection, access to the boxes in Block A is through balconies, and for the same reason, the elevator shafts are isolated from each other. Tartu University Children’s Hospital used the building until the summer of 2023, which is 40 years.
